The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Chief Quartermaster George W. Knowles, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty as a Pilot in a Seaplane stationed at Porto Corsini, Italy. Chief Quartermaster Knowles showed marked courage and exceptional flying ability, and took part in raids over enemy territory under fire.
