Hull, United States Navy, is cited by the Commanding General, SECOND DIVISION A.E.F., for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Hull distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Corpsman attached to the 47th Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action against the enemy in the St. Mihiel Sector, France, during World War I.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Roy E. Hull, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service as a Corpsman attached to the 47th Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at the front in France on 10 October 1918. Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Hull showed marked bravery and devotion to duty in attending the wounded under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, and his bearing was an inspiration to his associates.

With three other Hospital Corpsmen attacked to the 47th Company, he engaged in dressing wounded men under shell fire in the open, working untiringly during the entire bombardment of 23 June 1918, in the vicinity of Chateau-Thierry, France.
