The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Chief Boatswain’s Mate Steif Homiak, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in Command of the Armed Guard on the S.S. ARMENIA when it was torpedoed off Lizard Light (City of Naples). The account of the torpedoing indicates that the members of the Armed Guard under his command were imbued with the proper zeal, that they were trained, and efficient.
