The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Chief Boatswain’s Mate Harry L. Gibson, United States Navy, for heroic conduct following the sinking of the U.S.S. JACOB JONES on 6 December 1917. Chief Boatswain’s Mate Gibson displayed cheerful conduct and was an inspiration to the rest of the crew.
