The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant John David Edwards, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in the line of his profession on the U.S.S. SHAW when that ship was rammed by the steamship AQUITANIA. Lieutenant Edwards lost his life in the explosion.
