The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Lieutenant Commander Eugene F. DuBoise, United States Navy, for distinguished service in the line of his profession while attached to the U. S. Submarine N-5 upon the occasion of a collision between that vessel and the U.S.S. Charles Whittemore. Lieutenant Commander DuBoise voluntarily entered flooded battery compartment of the N-5, notwithstanding the danger that the compartment might be filled with chlorine gas if the water reached the battery cells, and remained there, bailing until the danger was passed.
