The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Lieutenant (MC) Paul T. Crosby, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism while serving as a Medical Officer attached to the Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during World War I. Lieutenant Crosby’s courage and untiring energy in caring for the wounded under fire, in many cases in the front line, and with conspicuous disregard for personal danger, were splendid examples to all associated with him.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Lieutenant (MC) Paul T. Crosby, United States Navy, is cited by the Commanding General, SECOND DIVISION A.E.F., for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Lieutenant Crosby distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Force, during World War I. Lieutenant Crosby’s untiring energy, extraordinary display of bravery in giving assistance to the wounded and his constant application to his work, laboring unceasingly for four days and nights, with but little sleep during the days of attack, he was responsible for saving many lives. Doctor Crosby worked under all conditions and, in many cases, in the front lines, with a disregard of personal danger, inspiring to his men.
