The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Electrician First Class Frederick L. Cook, United States Navy (Reserve Force), for extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession after the U.S.S. Idomeneus was torpedoed on 15 September 1917. Electrician First Class Cook remained at his post after all hands had left the ship, sending out S.O.S. calls while the ship was under fire, and it became necessary for him to jump overboard to reach one of the small boats.
