The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Watertender Raymond Chambers, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service, and marked efficiency, courage, and zeal in the performance of duty in the fireroom of the U.S.S. MOUNT VERNON after that ship was torpedoed in the Atlantic Ocean on 5 September 1918.
