The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Captain Francis Laird Chadwick, United States Navy, for distinguished service in the line of his profession as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. GALVESTON, engaged on patrol against raiders in the waters of the Asiatic Station, and later on convoy duty in the Atlantic, escorting troop and cargo ships to European waters through the zone infested by enemy submarines and mines, during World War I.
