The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Lieutenant Commander Holger E. Berg (NSN: 0-12048), United States Navy (Reserve Force), for distinguished services as Executive Officer of the U.S.S. LAKE FOREST during an engagement between that ship and an enemy submarine as a result of which engagement it is believed that the submarine was severely damaged during World War I.
