The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Milton Hudson Anderson (NSN: 0-7611), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in connection with military operations against the enemy as Chief of Staff of the Naval Operating Bases at Kodiak and Adak, Alaska, during the period March 1943 to September 1944, and later as Senior Officer Afloat at Ulithi from September to October 1944. He also served as Chief of Staff to Island Commander, Saipan, from 15 May to 2 September 1945. His thorough planning, extensive experience and professional skill distinguished the quality of the outstanding service rendered to the force afloat. Under his direction, bases were constructed and developed, which contributed greatly to the prosecution of the war against the Japanese Empire. His zeal, conduct, initiative and complete devotion to duty throughout were outstanding and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
