The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Frank J. Simon (MCSN: 87640), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Seventy-Sixth Company, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near St. Georges, France, 1 November 1918. Advancing with two other men alongside of a tank, in front of his company, Sergeant Simon encountered terrific enemy fire. After cutting their way through the wire the men in the tank and the men following Sergeant Simon were killed and he was wounded. Undaunted by his wound, he continued on alone, encountering and capturing six of the crew of the enemy machine-gun in a dugout.
