The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Lester Earl Seitz (MCSN: 120085), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Forty-Third Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Blanc Mont, France, October 3 – 5, 1918. After being struck in the leg by shrapnel, Private Seitz continued to act as stretcher bearer for two days and nights under heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, carrying wounded comrades to the first-aid station.
