The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal George Walter Schreech (MCSN: 81366), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Eighty-Second Company, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Bayonville, France, 1 November 1918. Corporal Schreech volunteered and went forward to reconnoiter a ravine infested with hostile machine-gun and artillery positions, returning with several prisoners.
