The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Private Mearl Colin Rockwell (MCSN: 86667), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Headquarters Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Torcy, France, on the night of 4 June 1918. As a member of a raiding patrol, Private Rockwell displayed great courage and devotion by fearlessly entering extremely dangerous areas and obtaining information imperatively necessary to the success of subsequent operations.
