The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Mearl Colin Rockwell (MCSN: 86667), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Headquarters Company, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Torcy, France, on the night of 4 June 1918. As a member of a raiding patrol, Private Rockwell displayed great courage and devotion by fearlessly entering extremely dangerous areas and obtaining information imperatively necessary to the success of subsequent operations.
