The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Arthur C. Olds (MCSN: 66786), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Eighteenth Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near St. Etienne, France, October 2 – 3, 1918. After all the runners had been wounded, Sergeant Olds volunteered to act as runner, and made several trips through machine-gun and artillery fire.
