By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain Robert L. Nelson (MCSN: 0-709), United States Marine Corps, is cited by the Commanding General, SECOND Division, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Captain Nelson distinguished himself while serving with Headquarters, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I.

Nelson (MCSN: 0-709), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service as Aide-de-Camp to the Division Commander, 2d Division, A.E.F., in the operations at St. Mihiel, Blanc Mont Ridge and the Meuse-Argonne. Captain Nelson’s service in that capacity greatly contributed to the efficiency, discipline and morale of the 2d Division.
