The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Hans Maurice Peter Naegle (MCSN: 100312), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Seventeenth Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Villemontry, France, 10 November 1918. Private Naegle and a companion went out ahead of the line and silenced a machine-gun which threatened to hold up the advance of his company.
