The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Patrick J. Moran (MCSN: 72160), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Eighty-First Company, Sixth Machine-Gun Battalion, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Thiaucourt. France, 15 September 1918. Passing from one gun to another, at all times exposing himself to great danger, carrying ammunition and encouraging his comrades, Private Moran showed great devotion to duty. When his company commander had become seriously wounded, he left his place of shelter and carried him to a first-aid station.
