The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant Robert Latane Montague (MCSN: 0-678), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Landreville, France, 1 November 1918. When the advance of his company was held up, First Lieutenant Montague voluntarily led a group of men in a flanking movement against a withering machine-gun fire, and under a heavy artillery bombardment entered and took the town of Landreville, capturing about 150 prisoners.
