The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Second Lieutenant Ralph William Marshall (MCSN: 0-1560), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Third Battalion, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the Bois-de-Belleau, France, on June 6 and 8, 1918. Second Lieutenant Marshall demonstrated conspicuous bravery and coolness in fearlessly exposing himself to heavy fire from machine-guns, rifles, and hand grenades in order that he might procure accurate information regarding the movements of the enemy.
