The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Leon W. Inman (MCSN: 91631), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Forty-Third Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Blanc Mont, France, 4 October 1918. Sergeant Inman led his platoon in attack, setting an example by keeping several yards in advance of the men. He also assisted in dressing the wounds of members of his platoon under machine-gun and artillery fire. After being wounded, he remained with his platoon until ordered to leave by the medical officer.
