The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Sergeant Daniel Amos Hunter (MCSN: 69028), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Sixty-Seventh Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, on 6 June 1918. During the attack First Sergeant Hunter fearlessly exposed himself and encouraged all men near him, although he himself was wounded three times. He subsequently died of wounds.
