The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Erie Clyde Hufstedler (MCSN: 152918), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Seventy-Ninth Company, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action during the occupation of Bouresches, France, 6 June 1918. After being severely wounded, Private Hufstedler refused to go to the rear, but remained and assisted with the wounded, displaying great self-sacrifice and devotion to duty.
