    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Corporal Walter S. Hiller (MCSN: 100561), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 55th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Bellefonte Farm, France, 10 November 1918. Under direct fire from seven enemy machine-guns, Corporal Hiller led a detachment across the River Meuse and destroyed a machine-gun nest which occupied a dominating position one thousand yards in advance of his company.
