    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Arnold Dee Godbey (MCSN: 159610), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Sixty-Seventh Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, on 6 June 1918. Corporal Godbey volunteered to rescue wounded men from a field swept by machine-gun fire and snipers. Upon gaining permission to perform this duty, he bravely continued the hazardous work, with the aid of other volunteers, until all had been rescued.
