The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Morris Frederick Fleitz (MCSN: 84201), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism and faithfulness in the face of great danger, while serving with the Headquarters Company, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action in the Belleau Wood, France, by remaining on arduous duty without rest for two days, under constant fire, to supply his battalion with rations and ammunition on June 9 – 10, 1918, and in the attack on Bois-de-Belleau, France. Private Fleitz made two trips with ammunition in broad daylight and in plain view of the enemy and carried ammunition across the field under heavy shell fire.
