The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Corporal William J. Ferguson (MCSN: 169161), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 17th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Villemontry, France, on 10 November 1918. Corporal Ferguson and companion went out ahead of the line and silenced a machine-gun which threatened to hold up the advance of his company.
