Fay (MCSN: 0-281), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 8th Machine-Gun Battalion, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, on 6 June 1918. Captain Fay displayed extraordinary heroism in the disposition of his machine guns under particularly difficult conditions. Opposed by superior forces, his utter indifference to personal danger furnished an example which inspired his men to success.
