    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant William Frederick Engel (MCSN: 110311), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Fifty-Fifth Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Blanc Mont Ridge, France, 4 October 1918. After locating a machine-gun nest, Sergeant Engel destroyed one of the guns and returned to our lines with valuable information concerning the location of the machine-gun nest.
