Dougherty (MCSN: 0-2266), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Bayonville, France, 2 November 1918. Displaying conspicuous leadership, Lieutenant Dougherty led his platoon against an enemy battery while it was in action. Through his skillful maneuvering forty-two prisoners, ten pieces of artillery and five machine-guns were captured.
