The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant David P. Colvin (MCSN: 0-70679), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Eighteenth Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action in the Bois-de-Belleau, France, 13 June 1918. With another soldier, Lieutenant Colvin advanced under the fire of an enemy machine gun, killed four of the crew and captured the gun.
