Buford (MCSN: 70802), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 55th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the Bois-de-Belleau, France, 13 June 1918. After being wounded Sergeant Buford, with exceptional courage, continued to lead his section forward against a machine-gun nest, and captured it.
