The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Gunner Alexander H. Bowman (MCSN: 88415), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service as Adjutant to the U. S. Debarkation Officer at Liverpool, England, who was also the U. S. Embarkation Officer at Southampton, England. Gunner Bowman was directly entrusted with the debarkation of more than three-quarters of a million of United States troops of all arms, together with their equipment, their transfer by rail across England, and their further embarkation from the English channel ports, for transfer to France.
