    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Corporal Edward Bald (MCSN: 150065), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 6th Machine-Gun Battalion, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Somme-Py, France, October 2 – 10, 1918. Corporal Bald maneuvered his machine-gun squad independently of the platoon, going forward under intense enemy machine-gun and artillery fire and concentration of gas. On one occasion he led his squad regardless of personal danger, in the rear of the German positions, and laid down a flanking fire against a portion of the enemy line, facilitating its capture, together with a number of the enemy.
