    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Private Ernest K. Aselton (MCSN: 899991), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 76th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near St. Etienne, France, 8 October 1918. Private Aselton volunteered and, under extremely heavy shell and machine-gun fire, established liaison for his company, bringing reinforcements to the line at a critical time, and thereby assisting materially in repelling a hostile counter-attack. He was killed later during this attack.
