The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Private Julian W. Alsup (MCSN: 119689), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 78th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Blanc Mont, France, 3 October 1918. When the advance of their Company was held up by enfilading fire from a hostile machine-gun nest, Private Alsup, with three other soldiers, volunteered and made a flank attack on the nest with bombs and rifles, killing three members of the crew and capturing twenty-five others, together with three machine guns.
