Sergeant Yahner distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Moulins, France, 15 July 1918, while carrying messages from Company to Battalion Headquarters under heavy artillery and machine-gun fire.
