By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Mess Sergeant Otto Wolz (ASN: 551398), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Mess Sergeant Wolz distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Mezy, France, 15 – 19 July 1918, in carrying a wounded comrade to the rear under heavy machine gun fire.

While serving with Company H, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the thickest of the fight on the Marne, near Mezy, France, 15 – 19 July 1918, Sergeant Wolz joined his company in spite of the heavy enemy shell-fire and was seriously wounded by machine gun fire while carrying back a wounded comrade.
