First Lieutenant Wolff distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 16th Field Artillery, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Cherry-Chartreuve, France, 16 August 1918, in aiding in extinguishing a fire in an ammunition dump under heavy shell fire.
