While serving as a Runner with Headquarters Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class White displayed great courage and resourcefulness during the intense bombardments of the Champagne-Marne Defensive, 15 – 18 July 1918, in the Bois d’Aigremont near Crezancy, France, maintaining close liaison between Regimental Headquarters and all units of the 30th Infantry Regiment when other means had failed.
