No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private John McLean White (ASN: 546240), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private White distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action at Bois d’Aigremont, France, 15 July 1918, while on duty as a runner.

While serving as a Runner with Headquarters Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class White displayed great courage and resourcefulness during the intense bombardments of the Champagne-Marne Defensive, 15 – 18 July 1918, in the Bois d’Aigremont near Crezancy, France, maintaining close liaison between Regimental Headquarters and all units of the 30th Infantry Regiment when other means had failed.
