    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Infantry) Edward R. White, United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Lieutenant White distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Mezy, France, 15 – 19 July 1918, and by his brilliant leadership of his platoon.

    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Infantry) Edward R. White, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company H, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the river Marne, near Chateau-Thierry, France, on 15 July 1918, Lieutenant White visited the platoon leaders during a heavy bombardment to make sure that our lines had not been broken by the attacking enemy. Leading a platoon in a counter attack against the enemy who was attacking the Battalion from the rear, he was wounded by machine gun bullets. His counterattack was successful, driving off the enemy and capturing forty-two prisoners.
