By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Infantry) Thomas R. Taber, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. First Lieutenant Taber distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 9th Machine-Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Bois d’Aigremont, France, 15 July 1918, in locating and bringing back to our lines a lost gun crew, during an intense barrage.

Taber, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 9th Machine Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Taber on hearing that one section of his platoon was lost during the bombardment of 15 July 1918, near Crezancy, France, himself braved the dangers of the German barrage to locate his men. For four hours he searched for them, finally locating the section far out in No Man’s Land. It was only due to the coolness of Lieutenant Taber that the gun teams were safely returned to their positions.
