Shields (ASN: 1241398), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Shields distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 110th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Apremont, France, 29 September 1918, in voluntarily advancing ahead of the lines to direct the fire of tanks.
