No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Thomas Roberts (ASN: 1551147), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private First Class Roberts distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery E, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Roncheres, France, 29 July 1918, while delivering rations to his battery during an enemy bombardment.

While serving with Battery E, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Roberts showed exceptional; heroism at Mont St. Pere, France, 23 July 1918; at Le Charmel, France, 25 July 1918; and at Roncheres, France, 30 July 1918. Private Roberts carried rations to the front under heavy enemy fire even after one of his two horses was killed and his cart damaged. On the Meuse-Argonne front his work in the same capacity was of the highest order.
