The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) William Henry Whiting Reinburg, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces. Captain Reinburg displayed exceptional courage and skill at Chateau-Thierry, St. Mihiel, and in the Argonne. He rendered valuable services as Executive Officer, holding his gun crews steady under heavy fire, and after his Battery Commander and thirty-five men of the battery had become casualties, assumed command and successfully continued to fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Reinburg, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
