By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Mess Sergeant Henry O. Partin (ASN: 2395637), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company M, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 15 July 1918, Mess Sergeant volunteered to go to the Post of Command of Company L and made the trip through heavy shell fire, his helmet being pierced through by shrapnel. On that date by the display of coolness and bravery he stimulated his men to take a stubborn defense. On hat date and the day following until the Germans retreat he repeatedly volunteered for extra hazardous patrol duty and was uniformly successful in accomplishing the mission for which his patrol was sent.
