By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Joseph F. Ouillette (ASN: 1550537), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in the vicinity of Cunel, France, 25 October 1918, Private Ouillette showed great courage, devotion to duty and disregard of personal safety by hauling ammunition over a road continuously swept by enemy artillery fire, thereby enabling his battery to continue fire, until his horse was wounded by a shell fragment and unfit for future use.
